Lobbying for the Nuclear Weapons Convention

Room: 115

27.8.2010, Friday 15.15-16.45

Facilitator. John Loretz, Program Director, IPPNW

Speakers: Rebecca Johnson, Acronym Institute; Tim Wright, ICAN

This is a hands-on workshop for abolition advocates who want to persuade their governments that working for a Nuclear Weapons Convention is the best path to a nuclear-weapons-free world. What are the strongest arguments in favor of the NWC? What are the common misperceptions held by diplomats who are reluctant to embrace the Convention? Are there different approaches to nuclear-weapon states and non-nuclear-weapon states? How does the NWC relate to the NPT? What kind of work can be started now to pave the way for negotiations?
