Born in 1945, Jürg Streuli spent his school years in Bern (Switzerland), his hometown. 1973 he obtained a Doctorate in Political Sciences at the University of Bern. The same year he joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and was subsequently posted in Portugal, Angola, Bern, Hungary and Paris. 1988 he was nominated Ambassador to Cameroon, then Singapore, Lebanon and Denmark.
Back to Switzerland he was from 2004 to the end of 2009 Ambassador for Disarmament in Geneva. In this function he represented also his country to the Mine Ban Treaty, 2008 and 2009 as its President.
