Following on President Obama's electrifying 2009 speech in Prague calling for a world without nuclear weapons, this panel will examine the progress, and barriers that have surfaced to date regarding the role of US leadership in global disarmament efforts. Edward Ifft will examine the issues surrounding progress towards START and CTBT ratification, with reference to the 2010 US Nuclear Posture Review. Jeffrey Patterson and Robert Gould will examine Department of Energy modernization proposals and other issues impacting the possibilities for fundamental change in US nuclear policy.
