Ime A. John

Ime John is a Nigerian physician and researcher in global health with special interest in injury prevention, small arms/conflicts epidemiology and domestic violence.

He has been involved in the campaign against violent conflicts and war in Nigeria since his undergraduate days and joined the Nigerian Affiliate of IPPNW in 1989. Ime John became the Nigerian Students Leader after the Stockholm Congress of 1991 where he had presented a paper on toxic waste dumping. He was also active in IFMSA as President of his NMO and currently an Alumnus. He has served under different capacities at national, regional and international level. The latest being one of the Co-Presidents of IPPNW since 2006, a position from which he will step down at this congress.

From 2004 to 2007, Ime John and a Puerto Rican colleague initiated and successfully executed a multinational injury surveillance pilot project in five African countries. Results of their findings were published in peer reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.

Ime John earned a PhD in public health sciences from Karolinska Institute where he had previously earned a master degree in Public Health with specialization in Safety Promotion and Injury prevention. He is expecting a Post graduate diploma in Global health from the Swedish Research School for Global Health.
